What types of chef's knives are there?
Chef's knives come in many different designs, each intended for specific tasks in the kitchen. The classic chef's knife – often also called a kitchen knife – is the universal all-rounder. It is excellent for cutting meat, vegetables, and herbs and can be found in almost every kitchen. An Asian variant is the Santoku , which is particularly common in Japanese cuisine. It has a slightly shorter, wider blade and is especially well-suited for fine, precise cuts.
Those who frequently prepare meat or fish often reach for specialized knives such as the carving knife , which, with its long, narrow blade, can cleanly slice large pieces of meat, or the filleting knife, whose flexibility makes it perfect for skinning and filleting. For bread and other baked goods, a serrated bread knife is typically used, as it cuts through the crust without crushing the inside. For morning rolls, our classic chef's knife is ideal. This practical knife is perfect for slicing rolls, whether at home or on the go, for example, while camping. It's also excellent for cutting cold cuts or cheese – a perfect knife for a snack or light meal.
Smaller tasks such as peeling or chopping fruit and vegetables are handled by the handy paring knife , also called a paring knife.
