Franz-Albrecht zu Oettingen-Spielberg – Hunting tradition meets modern practice
Franz-Albrecht zu Oettingen-Spielberg, born on 16 September 1982 in Munich, comes from the traditional noble family of Oettingen-Spielberg. He was introduced to hunting at an early age by his father, a passionate hunter and successful shooter in the Olympic trap discipline. He quickly developed a high level of shooting skill and hunting precision.
His great passion is driven hunting, especially for wild boar. With his exceptional shooting technique, his instinct for game and his lived hunting ethics, he has made a name for himself throughout Europe. Today, he is considered one of the most famous and accomplished hunters in Europe, combining tradition with modern hunting methods.
We have been manufacturing top-quality hunting knives with passion and dedication for over two and a half centuries. Many PUMA knives have become true classics and are now sought-after rarities, not only by users but especially by collectors. One of these special models is our ‘extension knife’, which we produced from the 1930s to the 1950s. We have now decided to reissue this model, also known as a ‘sausage cutter’ due to its original purpose.
The PUMA extension knife has a fold-out 19 cm blade made of stainless 440C steel (57–58 HRC). When folded, the blade extends well beyond the end of the handle, allowing it to be used for more delicate work. The movable guard (‘swing guard’) lies flat against the handle and swings around the handle when the blade is unfolded to reliably protect the hand holding the knife, e.g. when butchering game. In addition, the ‘extension knife’ has a fold-down lever that serves as a safety catch and release for the blade, which features retro lettering. Selected stag horn scales and a custom-fit leather belt sheath round off this beautifully crafted product.
As we process natural products, variations in colour and structure are possible – each knife is unique.
In this exceptional Franz-Abrecht zu Oettingen-Spielberg (FAOS) edition, you will receive the PUMA hunting pocket knife with a cognac-coloured leather sheath and press stud fastening. On the back of the main blade, you will also find the FAOS logo and an individual numbering of the knife (the knives are numbered consecutively. The numbers are assigned after the order is received. It is therefore not possible to choose the number).
